Smart assistance
Developed to detect and prevent falls and create a safe living environment, your Birchgrove apartment is fitted with the Nobi Smart Lamps. The lamps are packed with cutting edge technology and uses artificial intelligence to monitor every room and activate staff assistance when required.
In addition, you will be provided with a smartwatch which allows emergency calls to be made anywhere at Birchgrove. It can be conveniently and discretely worn, so that if you want, it can go anywhere you go.
(Please note: Nursing care is not provided.)
What is the Nobi lamp?
The Nobi lamp is a new type of ceiling light driven by new technology that can detect if someone falls.
The light operates and illuminates a room exactly in the same way that a traditional ceiling light does. However, the light also has an intelligent sensor that can detect when a person in that room falls. When this happens, the light will send a message to Birchgrove staff who are alerted and are able to attend immediately.
The light can also help to prevent falls by proactively illuminating the room when a resident sits up or gets out of bed during the night.
Why we are using lamps?
Around a third of people aged 65 and over, and around half of all people aged 80 and over, fall at least once a year, with a person aged over 80 falling on average every ten seconds in the UK.
Falls are the most significant cause of fatal injury amongst older people and have a considerable impact on people’s confidence and ability to live independently, thereby forcing or accelerating an unwanted move into a care home.
Where will the lamps be installed?
We are installing the lights throughout our apartments – including in bedrooms, living/dining rooms and bathrooms - across six of our communities. We are extremely proud to be the first senior living organisation in the UK to provide the lamps for our residents.
Installing the lights is part of our commitment to offering the most innovative technological solutions on the market. Furthermore, the light will provide our residents and staff with peace of mind that assistance is immediately available should a fall occur.
Does the lamp monitor or watch me?
Our residents’ privacy and dignity is absolutely fundamental, and our use of the lamp does not monitor or watch you like a traditional camera. Rather, the lamp’s computer is solely trained to specifically sensor if a person has fallen, and only then will it alert a member of staff and ensure help is provided as soon as possible.
